She is the child of Harvey Welker, a Native American father, along with Julie Welker, an African American mother. She has an indigenous father and an African-American mother. Walker was a student at Germantown Friends School, which is part of the Germantown Friends School located in Philadelphia's Germantown and graduated with a diploma in 1994. She then went on to Harvard College where she earned the Bachelor of Arts degree in 1998. Welker, wed to John Hughes of Merck Philadelphia in Philadelphia is mother to two. In 2014, they started being involved in an affair. John is husband to her and is four years older than her. The couple decided to move their relationship forward because things were going well.
